Donald Abraham Mansour

December 25, 1927 - June 23, 2021

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Donald Abraham Mansour at 11:00am on Friday June 25, 2021, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Father Rusty Rabalais officiating. There will be a visitation starting at 9:00am at the church followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30am. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Habeeb Mansour and Lula Hesni Mansour; his brothers: Hab Mansour (Elaine); and Judge Alfred Mansour (Mary Jo) and one sister, Marilyn Karam (Jack). Donald went from this life to his eternal life with the Lord on June 23, 2021, at the age of 93. He was born in Lake Village Arkansas, Christmas Day, 1927. His family had to evacuate to higher ground due to the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Lake Village is a small farming community nestled along the banks of beautiful Lake Chicot. He enjoyed hunting on the Lake before school and would often bring his mother a duck or fish for the table. Life was simple then-his first building project was a sled made from scrap wood which he hitched to the back of the cotton wagon for a free ride to the gin. The town doctor sat at a desk behind a plate glass window on Main Street waiting for customers to walk in. He started working at the age of 12 helping his father in his business after school. At the age of 17 he worked for the telephone company for five months and was drafted into the Army at age 18. He took his first trip out of Lake Village on a large ship bound for Korea. At the age of 19 he had been promoted to Sargent and had fourteen men working under him. He always said it was “only because he knew something about telephone work and no one else knew anything about them”. In 1947, his brother Hab Mansour urged him to move to Alexandria, La and there they forged a long successful partnership starting with the “Big M” Army Surplus followed by a Ladies Cancellation Shoe Store and finally, Donald found his niche as a building contractor. Many of the strip shopping centers, apartments, homes and restaurants in Alexandria were built by Donald. His honesty and integrity drew people to him. In 1986, Donald was elected to the National Homebuilders Association and was proud to represent Louisiana. He was a member of the Rotary, Syra-Meric, and Amerita clubs. He was honored to serve on the Bishop’s Building Review Committee. He was a man of many hobbies from hunting and fishing to golf, billiards, dominos, and he loved to play cards. He was a man of eloquent words and wrote many poems to loved ones. Drawing was a hobby he picked up again in his nineties. Most of all he loved people. He was affectionately known around town as “Uncle Donald”. When you met him, he never forgot you, you were important to him. Not only did he know you he remembered your parents and your grandparents. His memory for people, dates and events was truly remarkable. His large extended family was very important to him, he loved them so and they returned the love in so many ways. He had so many stories, he was such a fun person. Laughter followed him wherever he went. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bernadette Glorioso Mansour; his children, Donald Mansour Jr. of New Orleans, Melissa Jahren (Tim) of Dallas, Stephen Mansour of Memphis, Mary Jude Bauer (Keith) of Orange County California, Charles Mansour (Patricia) of New Orleans; Bernadette’s children, Andrea Stradley of Alexandria, and Christopher Wolf (Denell) of Alexandria; former daughter-in-law, Rory Mansour of Germantown; his grandchildren, Melina Mansour, Stephen Donald Mansour (Sidra), Ashley Jahren, Daniel Jahren, Keith Joseph Bauer, Jacob Bauer, Dr Charles Thomas Mansour, Patrick Mansour, Julia Mansour, Bennett Mansour, Dominic Mansour, Stone Wolf and Grace Wolf. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Stone Wolf, Stephen Donald Mansour, Dr Charles Thomas Mansour, Patrick Mansour, Bennett Mansour, Dominic Mansour and Daniel Jahren. Honorary Pallbearers honored to serve will be Dr Louis Joseph, Dr Alfred Mansour, Dr Jerry LeGlue, David ‘Dusty’ Nassif and Joe Thomas Glorioso. Special thanks to Dr Robin Freedman and Dr Jose Garcia for their many years of care; the wonderful nurses of Compassionate Care, Anna Brodhead and Allison Young; the nursing techs Tiffany Brisco and Samantha Louie; and his home caregivers Daisy Lavalais and Lilly Wells. One cannot overlook the loving care of Andrea Stradley, RN, and her brother Christopher Wolf, who worked tirelessly for the comfort of their stepdad. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in his honor to the Cenla Pregnancy Center of Alexandria, 1254 Mac Arthur Dr., or Eternal World Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale Alabama 35210.
