Gravesides services for Irene Cochran Oliphant will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020, at Alexandria Memorial Gardens, with Dr. B. David Brooks officiating and under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Irene Cochran Oliphant, 94, of Alexandria passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at her residence. She is preceded in death by her husband, CSM Homer C. Oliphant; a son, Rodney Oliphant; her parents, Delphine and RaFe Cochran; and her siblings, Floyd Cochran, Jeannette White, Jane Holland, Dorothy LeJeune. Irene made friends wherever she went, she never met a stranger. She loved sharing, if you came to her home, she was going to give you something. Irene loved working in her yard and planting flowers. Irene loved her animals as she her family always inviting more into her heart. She was a homemaker, following her husband with six children all over the world during his 34-year career in the United States Army. Irene belonged to the WIBC, Women’s International Bowling Congress, where she competed in local, state, and national levels. She also bowled in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Munich Germany in women and mixed leagues. In 1992, at the age of 66, she graduated from Bolton Beauty School. Those left to cherish her memory include her five children, Ricky Oliphant, Randy Oliphant, Clydia Oliphant, Cynthia Miller and Cherye McGowen, along with many grand and great grandchildren. Pallbearers honored to serve will be, George Fine, Dr. John Benjamin, Darrell White, Gordon White, Eric Cochran and Barry Smith. The family would like to thank the staff of Rapides Regional Medical Center 3 South for the care and kindness they gave, to Dr. Joan Brunson for always being there and never giving up, and to the nurses and staff of Harbor Hospice and Lagniappe Home Health. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Donna Smith, Darrell White, Barry White, and Becky Riggar for their support, care and love shown throughout our mother’s health needs. And also to Moms special friend Belle Fine for singing Amazing Grace at the conclusion of her service.
