Mrs. Lounsberry, 96, of Alexandria, LA peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Lexington House Nursing Home. Iris was born in DeQuincy, LA on January 28, 1926, and graduated from High School in 1943. During her working years, she worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, DeQuincy, LA, where at the age of 18 she worked a traditional man’s job during WWII. She would see soldiers hanging out windows of the trains throwing their mail desperate for family members to receive as they headed to war. Seeing this mail falling on the train tracks and in the dirt, she bravely ran out of the train station scooping up all she could and put them in a mailbox close by before anyone saw her act. She was rewarded by the soldiers with their whoops and hollers of thanks to the beautiful brave young girl. Iris lived in Beaumont, Texas for part of her adult life, later moving to Alexandria where she worked for the Rapides Parish Sales Tax Department until her retirement in 1986. Iris was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and for a while a member of the Saints Alive Choir. After her retirement, her hobby was making quilts. She loved making quilts for her family's birthday anniversaries. Our wonderful, beautiful Christian mother is now reunited with her lifelong love, her husband, in heaven. She will be dearly missed by so many. Iris was preceded in death by her husband Aaron Peter Lounsberry, Jr. of 65 years a Veteran of WWII Bronze Star recipient; son, Randall Aaron Lounsberry; grandson Eric Taylor Cicardo; her parents Preston and Zelma Garrie Robertson, brothers Arnold Robertson, Estil Robertson, Lewis Robertson, and Eugene Robertson; and her sisters, Nada Lawonia Brock, and Margarite Robertson. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, D'Andrea G. Mink, and Carolyn Lounsberry Cicardo (Thomas N. Cicardo); granddaughters, Janice Graves, Melissa Thompson, Megan Lounsberry and Kelly Cicardo; grandsons, Clay Barron (Kristi), and John D. Cicardo; great-grandsons, Brandon and Tyler Graves, Liam Perrin, and Drayton Barron; great- granddaughters, Hayley Graves, Addison Ruth Barron, and Olivia Marie Cicardo.
