Flynn (77) of Alexandria, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021, surrounded by family. Leo was born in Ashland, Pennsylvania in 1943 to Leo Flynn and Ethel (Mills) Flynn and grew up in Westfield, New Jersey. After graduating from Villanova University in 1965, he moved to New Orleans to attend Loyola University School of Dentistry. Following graduation in 1970, Leo served in the U.S. Army as a Captain and was a Vietnam veteran. While attending Loyola, Leo met his wife, Lucille “Herbie Lou” Smith, with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together they share five children, Leo “Trey” Flynn III (Aubrey), Jennifer Cahill (Timothy), Katherine “Katie” Vanderlick (intended, Josh Daigre), Megan Beck (Robert) and Abby Blocker (Matt); and 11 grandchildren, Alex, Loughlin and Sidney Flynn; Coco and Flynn Cahill; Tierney and Liam Vanderlick; Margaret and Mary Hampton Beck; and Jon Matthew and Annie Blocker. Leo also is survived by his sisters, Jule Foley and Mary Kay Michalczak, and brother, Robert “Bobby” Flynn. Leo is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James “Jimmy” Flynn. Of all his accomplishments, Leo was most proud of his family. Every year, he looked forward to their annual Thanksgiving beach trip, and every day he loved being a husband, father and “Paddy.” In addition to spending time with family, Leo enjoyed cheering on the Villanova Wildcats basketball team and sharing stories about his life experiences. Leo will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but not forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to Our Lady of Prompt Succor School, 420 21st Street, Alexandria, LA 71303.
