A Celebration of Life for Louis Donald Shove will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at St. Clair Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Ellis and Bro. Ronnie Parks officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Gardner, under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the church. Louis Donald Shove, age 87, of Rapides Parish, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. Louis was born February 7, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Samuel and Norma (Normand) Shove. Louis attended Rosenthal Elementary School and went on to graduate from Bolton High School in 1953. He joined the United States Marine Corps and was first stationed at Camp Pendleton, California after completing bootcamp. On a bus trip in December 1962, to Minnesota to visit his sister, Alice, and her family, Louis met the love of his life, Gloria Jean Barry – a Wisconsin girl, born and raised. They were married on May 8, 1964, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Louis and Gloria had numerous duty stations throughout Louis’ military career including Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; Fort Meade, Annapolis, Maryland; and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Louis did three tours during the Vietnam War from 1967-1972. Louis’ accolades included linguistics specialist, education in jungle warfare, recon, and intelligence. Louis retired from the USMC in 1973 after 20 years of service. He moved his family back to Louisiana to be near his beloved mother. Louis continued to work in various jobs including Sears, the Ford dealership, and Walker Oldsmobile. He loved to read and complete his cryptogram puzzles to keep his mind sharp. Louis kept well-informed on current events and could easily converse with anyone on any subject. Louis also enjoyed his time working at the 13th Gate and Louisiana Nightmares where it was more fun than work. Louis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a deacon at St. Clair Baptist Church. He also helped with the construction of the current church building. Louis is survived by his wife, Gloria, and his three children, Mary (John) Miles, Donald (Michelle Marsh), and Kathy (Jamie) Johnson. His pride and joy were his grandkids, Alissia, Jordan, Chloe, Bryttany, Samuel, Levi, and grandpups, Daisy May and Bebe. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (John) Halvorson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Norma (Normand) Shove; his half-sister, Grace Maxmenko; his sister, Billie Galvan, and brothers-in-law, Dale Hunt, Peter Graslie, and Gerald Barry. Pallbearers honored to serve include Johnny Holt, Ralph Kilstrum, Mike Lang, Buddy McFarlane, Dwayne Sanburn, and Bob White. Honorary pallbearers are Colonel Tanaka, James Kirkwood, and Milton Coffman. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the St. Clair Baptist Church building fund, 940 St. Clair Rd, Boyce, LA 71409.
