Marilyn Kellogg Banks

September 16, 1925 - April 19, 2021

Marilyn Kellogg Banks was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 16th, 1925 and died on April 19th, 2021, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine, and Lawrence Kellogg. Marilyn moved from Minneapolis to Alexandria while she was still in grammar school and completed her early education. She attended St. Mary’s Hall Preparatory School in Minnesota, and completed her Liberal Arts education at Pine Manor Junior College in Massachusetts. She later graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago where she received her professional degree. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her husband, T.E. Banks, Jr., MD. They had four children, Lawrence Banks (J’nette), Stephen Banks (Donna), David Banks, and Jane Dunn. Marilyn is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was also preceded in death by three other husbands, Roy Cookston, Warren Eichelberg, and Ted Martin. In 1973, Marilyn embarked on a path that would lead her to be a renowned sculptor with images that grace not only her family and friends, but also those that view her art in venues such as Rapides Women’s Hospital where her larger than life statue “Mother and Child” blesses all who enter the hospital She also produced “The Mermaid” for Dr. And Mrs. Max Burr, along with a life sized sculpture of a grandfather reading to a child which stands in a Columbus, Georgia park. Other statues of many local figures included Parrish Fuller of Oakdale, Reverend Iveson B. Noland, presiding Bishop of Louisiana, and the “Baguette Magique” (the Magic Hands) created for the 25th anniversary celebration of Maestro William Kushner, as conductor of the Rapides Symphony Orchestra. Many remember her every time they look at her “Lake Angels” she created and distributed to many of her wonderful friends on Walloon Lake, Michigan - an area Marilyn dearly loved and spent her summers. Marilyn loved her creative gift of sculpturing and art, music, theater, and dancing. She was a wonderful friend to so many who will miss her. Thank you to everyone who had a meaningful influence to her and her family. Services will be held for Marilyn at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, LA. on Thursday, April 22, 2021 with visitation at 1:00 P.M. and services at 2:00 p.m. Entombment follows immediately after the service at the Mausoleum at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be sent to the Walloon Lake Library, 2203 Walloon St, Walloon Lake, MI 49796; St. Timothy Episcopal Church 2627 Horseshoe Dr, Alexandria, LA 71301; and River Oaks Art Center 1330 2nd St, Alexandria, LA 71301.
