Merval Ray Dauzat

Ray Dauzat was born in Fifth Ward on January 13, 1940 to Valley J. Dauzat and Gressa Carmouche Dauzat, and he passed away on May 27, 2021, at Riviére de Soleil Community Care Center, at the age of 81. Ray served in the Army National Guard for 9 years, was a pharmaceutical salesman and drove a bus for Avoyelles Parish School Board, where he later retired from. He also owned Ray’s Grocery for 7 years. Ray loved to hunt, fish and to go to the camp with family and friends. He also loved when his family would come home so they could all get together to cook and “pass a good time”. Ray was known to his grandchildren as “Pop”. He was a good and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend to many. “Our Hearts are broken; our Pop has left us! A life well lived, Fly away home and rest in peace Pop!” He is preceded in death by his parents, and his uncle whom he was very close to, Walton Carmouche. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean Dauzat; their children, Jennifer Eddlemon and Joey Dauzat (Catherine); grandchildren, Erica Taylor (Ryan), Joey Dauzat, Jr., Joshua Dauzat (Tracy), Jonathan Dauzat (Christa), Justin Dauzat (Hannah), Jordan Dauzat, and Trey Poret; great-grandchildren, Emmy and Brantly Taylor, Jaycee Dauzat, Maddox Dauzat, Hayden Dauzat, Jax Dauzat, and Jase Dauzat; his brother, V. J. Dauzat (Jennifer); and his sister, Shirlene Gagnard (Johnny).
