Sadie Jean Martin Shores
May 30, 1933 - January 18, 2022
At her home, Jeannie, with family at her side on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, in her 88th year left this world in peace. She was born on May 30, 1933. She attended Catholic school and graduated Salutatorian of her class from Providence Central for Girls in Alexandria, Louisiana. Jeannie Shores was the beloved wife of the late Howard E. Shores for 64 years. The only child and dearly loved daughter of the late James Reaves and Sadie Marie Rachal Martin. Much loved mother of Karen Stephenson, Desianne Martin, Stephanie Supple, Martin Shores, and Kimberly Harper. Cherished grandmother of Clint, Brody, Derek, Rachel, Kristyn, Christopher, and Allie. Blessed to be the great grandmother of seven great grandchildren. Aunt to a beloved niece Gale Shores Bailey. Jeannie lived a full life as a wonderful wife and mother, homemaker and registered nurse, serving as St. Frances Cabrini operating room’s first open heart surgery nurse and later manager for the operating room desk until retiring. She loved to cook, kept an immaculate home filled with her children and many of their childhood friends, and was highly intelligent and skilled with sewing and numerous crafts. She had a love for literature, typically reading a dozen books per week near the end of her life. The quote by Jorge Borges is a reflection of our mother’s love for the library, something she passed on to her children; “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.” Travel was a passion for her and Howard, always to include trips to visit family. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values and a life lived true to the Catholic faith that has served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. The family gives thanks and we pray God bless abundantly the caregivers who helped take care of her at the end of her life; Angel, Sherry, Ryan, Jessie, Bretta, the Staff of Faith Foundation Hospice and to Dr. Roberto Garcia. In keeping with Jeannie’s wishes, donations can be given to the Alexandria Diocese, Office of Vocations, to educate local seminarians for the Priesthood. Private family services will be held.
