Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosa Farace; his wife, Rose Mowad Farace; his daughter, Rosemary Farace Ellison; his long-time companion, Peggy Clark; his sister, “Katie” Giordano; and his brothers, Charles Farace Jr., Thomas “Mossie” Farace, and Joseph Farace. Sam Farace, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 6, 2022. He was known by his many friends and family as “Sammy” and lovingly by his grandchildren as “Pops”. He was in born in Alexandria, LA on December 9, 1932, of Sicilian immigrants, Rosa and Charles Farace. He attended Menard High School, and upon graduating entered the U.S. Army. Sammy was stationed in Germany as a military policeman and he often shared great tales of his adventures and travels throughout Europe. Following his return to Alexandria, he started F&F Supermarket with his brother, Mossie, where they served their local community for more than 20 years. He then started and owned Sammy’s Food Store and Sammy’s Steak and Ribs, eventually retiring at the age of 76 but certainly never slowing down. Sammy was a long-time member of the Amerita Club and served as a volunteer officer for many years. He beamed when telling stories about his Italian family, their history, and his life in Alexandria. Sammy married Rose Mowad in 1959 and they started a family shortly thereafter. Throughout Sammy’s life, his family remained his highest priority. He was a great patriarch, who instilled the values of family, hard work, education, and the love of life to all who knew him. Sammy was generous and had cherished friendships. He never met a stranger, always shared whatever he had and just loved being around people. He enjoyed traveling and sports, and never missed an opportunity to cheer on LSU (“Geaux Tigers”). Sammy’s legacy will live on for generations through his children, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends. Few people mention Sammy’s name without adding “he is a good man”. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Karen Renee Klimczak (Steve) of Houston, TX, Sam Anthony Farace II (Denise) of Houston, TX, and Lori Farace Bryan (Clay) of Shreveport, LA.; his grandchildren, Katie Ellison Leake (Andy), Steven Klimczak Jr. (Amber), Madison Klimczak Dumas (Forbes), Madelyn Farace, Emily Farace, Nicholas Bryan, and Christopher Bryan; his five great-grandchildren, Logan Leake, Hannah Leake, Beau Farace Kern, Hallie Klimczak, and Aubrey Klimczak. Sammy is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Tricia Farace and Sam Charles Giordano who took special care of him in his later years. Pallbearers honored to serve include Steven Klimczak Jr., Nicholas Bryan, Christopher Bryan, Johnny Giordano, Steve Boeta, and Joseph Paul Waild. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Charles Giordano, David Ellison, and Larry Liberto. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
