Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. On Monday, October 11, 2021, we lost a true son of God. “Billy,” to all who knew and loved him, passed away at the age of 58 – going on 18 or 88 – depending on the company he kept and the hour of the day. He is preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Allen, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Ruby and Walter Coates; and his paternal grandparents, Garnet and Lester Allen. Billy is survived by his wife of 32 years and the love of his life since age 15, Margaret; his children, William, Charles and Jane Anne; his mother, Janelle Allen; and three sisters, Debbie Allen Beck (Rick), Ginger Allen and Robin Allen. Billy grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Holy Savior Menard in 1981. He loved Menard and was proud to be a part of this community. After high school, Billy graduated from LSU and returned to Alexandria to assist his father in running Allen Glass. He later received his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law School. Billy was a legal advocate for many, a counselor for many more and was particularly passionate with facilitating adoptions and taking pro bono cases. Billy married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Hussey, in 1989. He was thrilled to gain five sisters, two brothers and multiple in-laws; and he loved this family as his own. Billy and Margaret enjoyed just being together. They especially loved their weekend retreats to New Orleans: getting dressed up for a meal at Galatoire’s, drinks at the Sazerac Bar, and an Old Fashioned anywhere. Billy and Margaret were blessed with three beautiful children, William, Charles and Jane Anne. He loved being a dad and jumped in with both feet for birthday parties, homework and coaching. Some of the family’s best memories were at the ballpark, soccer field and dance recitals. The family loved beach trips and big family celebrations. Billy also loved sharing his favorite tunes and movie quotes with his family. Billy was a convert to the Catholic faith and was very involved at Our Lady of Prompt Succor church, where he worshipped and volunteered in many capacities. He was always willing to step up and help with youth group activities, as well as serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister and on the Pastoral Council. He was richly blessed by the ACTS community and never turned down an opportunity to help at the retreats and witness God’s transformative grace at work. Above all, Billy lived to serve his family. He was happiest at home - cooking and making it a welcome place for all. As the Fall approached, he was the first to have a fire in the fireplace and a gumbo on the stove, even if it meant turning down the thermostat. The door was always open, and Billy loved the revolving door of family and friends coming in and out. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Rob Antoon, Rick Beck, John Doggett, Mark Gravel, Edan Moran, Ricky Rozanski, Jerry Wood and Richard White. Honorary Pallbearers are Jacques Roy, Tim Dunn, Jerry Honigman, Sean McGlothlin, Steve Mansour, Lee Gwinn, Tommy Cupples and Sheldon Strasner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Savior Menard Central High School. Their address is 4603 Coliseum Blvd, Alexandria, LA, 71303, Attn: Jennifer Tichenor.
